Scratch Ticket Cake

Check out the cake I made for my friend Tammy's birthday! I hope you enjoy!
It is an interactive cake that the birthday girl got to scratch off! It was super fun to make and I had a lot of fun watching Tammy scratch off the ticket!
The lettering is awful but the scratch part was cool.

Small town politics at it's best!

Regarding councilman's citations..I want an outside attorney hired immediately! The city manager, a current sitting/incumbent and the owner of the radio station are in cahoots to bash another incumbent. Broadcasting daily until the election "citation issues"! Wait...hang in there, they were brilliant.... They are so brilliantly slimy they even use the guise that it is "news". They have issued a character assassination of a local man running for a position on the city council. They will run this ad/news until Tues the day of the election. And they hide under their "newsworthy" tactics. Yes citations were issued...but he HAS NOT BEEN FORMERLY CITED BY THE CITY ATTORNEY. So, KSID goes on a code violation rant about how a sitting council member has code violations and no one is doing anything about it. OMG!!! HOW CONVENIENT that KSID has confirmed this..6 days before the election, six glorious broadcasting days before the election, how perfect is that. Why isn't our 'CITY ATTORNEY' doing anything? What's that....he can't....OH, then lets hire someone who can! Why didn't they do that? Hmmmmm, cause maybe it's more useful to use against him 1 week before the election? Snaps to KSID, Gary Person, & Wendell Gaston. You have shown me EVERYTHING I needed to know about you. Here's a box of Fudge for yoU Gary Person, for not hiring an attorney to formalize these horrific citations that were not being taken care of, this is on you 100%. OMG! HORRIFIC citations! OMG hurry up and hire an outside attorney to handle this matter! And here is a box of Fudge for yoU Wendell Gaston, for not having to pay for an opponent bashing ad! Brilliant! And here is a box of Fudge for yoU KSID, your personal agenda is working! Brilliant! And here is a box oF liqUor chocolates for Tamara Nelsen.

You can not make this shit up.

P.S. Our anger regarding citations should be directed at the board who issued the citations, for not following up, and the city attorney for not doing anything about it, and for the city manager for not hiring an attorney to do anything about it. The mayor couldn't do anything, cause he is not allowed to talk to other councilmen behind closed doors. Just watch how Gary Person spins this one.

P.S.S. Is it KSID's job to research citations issued to citizens? Do they do this to ALL citizens issued citations? or just Marv? hmmmm....

See you at the polls!

Food & supplies going up....Congress going down.

If you think it's bad now! Wait till this time next year rolls around and 2014 will be the year, the year the shoe salesmen will be sent home. Mom & pops around the US will be forced to raise their prices to cover their losses. The average Mom & Pop will pay out more in taxes and fines than they bring in as profit. Many will simply shut down and join the line. Why should I care? I have a job, so what? Well you should care, because each and everytime you open your pocket book, you will be paying an average of 10% more for the same item we currently OVERPAY for. Unemployment will soar. Food stamp lines will grow.
Many will starve rather than join that line. The last 10 years have seen elderly citizens going without, going without food, going without medicine, going without heat, dying in the heat. And now they are looking at skyrocketing fees going up for their healthcare. If this is not a picture of a collapsing economy, I do not know what is. Our dollar is currently worth nothing. I look back at my good years, and those years were during a republican congress. Didn't matter who the president was.
If we want to change our economy we need to change our congress. We need to get off the gimmy horse and go after the crooks who are overcharging us in the first place.
Health care got so expensive that many good people thought the public option was their only choice, and they voted for that choice. It became too hard to go after the evil that jacked up the price in the first place and became easier to hope the government would pay your simple doctor bill. The doctor bill that will shut down mom & pop. Our own town is jacking up all our fees, new schools (18 million dollars for 347 students), new wastewater treatment (should have only been one new wastewater treatment plant in my lifetime, not 2 in the last 20 years!) new landfill cells at a cost of (in my dr evil voice) 1 million dollars. Streets in need of repairs and City utilities going through the roof. New fleets of vehicles for all city departments. and yet the dreamers bash me because I say enough already, they want to keep spending. They want more bulb outs, they want paths, they want it all. And now they want our city manager Gary P. to get a raise.......? Oh Lawdy, what's we's gonna do, poor Gary needs a raise. What's the matter? Can't pay your water bill? Really? Really? .... Vote republican this Nov.

Yea, I said it.

Who knew?

Who knew my blog was being read!? Our local paper recognized my blog in their editorial section today. Who knew it was news worthy? Who knew they could take offense to a follower's remarks? Who knew they were so desperate for news that they report about someone's blog? Who knew? I know of only a handful of people reading this blog. Are blogs real? Are blogs factual? Are blogs fictional? What is a blog to you? Is a post under an anonymous name newsworthy? Who knew that 2 people couldn't blog together without someone feeling threatened? Have you read the blogs out there? Ever tell someone to "go to h*ll". Personal blogs are not newsworthy, nor are they guaranteed truthful. I do not write for FOX news, I do not claim to be fair and balanced. This blog was designed for 2 chicks from Nebraska to communicate our likes and dislikes, our funny stories, our pain. I now understand the need for our foes to use the anon function when replying to my post. I was brave enough to post my name and my thoughts. My anon followers used it against me. How smug they must feel. We are not going to play their reindeer games anymore. The Sidney Daily Sun got it wrong again. They "assumed" a person was someone and they were wrong!!!
We all know what happens when you assume! How many Mike B's do you know? I know of 3. Hook, line and sinker. They took the bait! To the Argo I go.

Relax, the new school is up and ready!

Our new school is finally up and ready!! The teachers are relaxed and they found their rooms. Can you imagine how smart these kids are gonna be? I wish I could have had a relaxed teacher. My English teacher Mr. J was the only relaxed teacher I had, and that was only when he was "flirting" (I say that lightly I believe a hickey was involved.) with the senior girls. Yea, I saw it! It is going to be very interesting following the lives of these super new smart kids. I can not wait to compare the grades of the previous school students to the "new school" students. This should prove interesting. Relax.

Kelroy was here but now she is gone.

Kelroy's been axed. Apparently, someone found my blog to be offensive, so they called my dad, and got me axed. (Boy howdy, bet they feel smug) I didn't want to go, but the powers that be have shut me down. So long freinds & foes. It's been fun.

To clarify, I am not allowed to banter with the citizens who are voicing disapproval of Bob. I can not respond to the attacks. They are good citizens who care about our community and I will not be apart of dividing our town. I can and will comment as a taxpaying citizen on issues that concern me.
I am still a citizen of Sidney.

What is wrong with this letter!?

The following letter was sent to our local paper and it is causing a uproar deluxe.

Read the letter and tell me what is so wrong with what he said? Who's butt hurts from this letter? We Know Ibs Young has a personal gripe and she has made it clear with her response letter to the editor, God Bless America! Freedom of speech! Which Ms. Young is entitled to. But what does everyone else think?....
Please be SPECIFIC as to which sentance is so bad.

Remember, be specific.....

Editor,

What’s wrong with Sidney being a nice little town to live, work, and raise our kids in? What’s wrong with having a handy bus? Do we really need a Department of transportation? What’s wrong with having a handy bus driver instead of a head of transportation department person? What’s wrong with having a building inspector rather than chief building official? What’s wrong with having an animal control person instead of a code enforcement officer? What’s wrong with the city manager having a super good secretary instead of a human resource director? What’s wrong with doing what we have to do to take care of business and leave it at that? What’s wrong with doing the things that we can pay for and don’t look to the state and federal governments for grant money that comes with hundreds of pages of rules and regulations to follow? Like the 1.2 million plus cost of extending the present walking path that costs in the low 10s of thousands. That’s the way it was when Marlin Ferguson was city manager. The only reason the Department of Public Services position was created was that when the long time supervisor of the power plant retired, Mr. Ferguson realized he was not knowledgeable about power generation. That is the reason council created that job. It should have been eliminated years ago. I like Gary Person and I think he would be a good city manager if he would do it full-time and let the chamber take care of economic development. When a prospect drops in, the city can do whatever they can for them, instead we are all slobbering at the government kool-aid trough to get something for nothing, but it comes at a great price. What’s wrong with just being a nice little town that’s a good place to live, work and raise our kids?

Anyone can write an anonymous letter...

Someone writes an anonymous letter and Bob Van Vleet gets recalled? Really? Who has anything to gain from this anonymous letter? Who has something to lose from this anonymous letter? I know these questions are really hard, so bare with me. Recalling Bob Van Vleet because of an anonymous letter should have each and every sitting councilman / future concilman concerned. Can our sitting council and future council compete with anonymous letters? This should prove very interesting. To all new councilmembers: watch out for Ibs Young in the hallway! She speaks one thing and then does another, kinda a little like lying. Oh...was that too strong? Maybe she's just a little decieving? he he...

Who gains from these letters?.....Let's see, who gains when Bob is gone....
Tammy Nelson perhaps? Julie Young perhaps? Ibs Young? Gary Person? Old Doc Carl?

So I ask you, Who gains from this anon letter?.....

Who is next?........

Let the Anon Letter Campaign begin!!!

Sidrock a Young creation!

I believe Sidrock is written by the Young family. I believe the Youngs are instigating a slander campaign. Sidrock is nothing more than a slander rag written by the Youngs under the guise of "Bob's Goon". How appropriate is it that the "rag"
"appears" to laud Bob? Only the Youngs would instigate such a campaign. Driving around town, seeing where you live, where you go, where you work, what you drive, looking into his grandchildren's personal lives. This is what happens when the Youngs have all the power in a small town and also a political agenda. I hope they understand voodoo. I hope they understand that their bad kharma only comes back to them two fold.

Our favorite places in Sidney

Favorite places in Sidney Nebraska from a residents point of view.
I get so caught up in city politics that sometimes I forget why I love it here.
Sometimes when you want to find a good place to eat in a new town it is best to talk to the locals. Where do you eat? Where do you shop? Where do you play?

This post will be ever growing as I hope other locals will join in. Maybe if someone is checking our town out they can reference this blog spot to find the best.
I work full time and don't have the funds to play a lot, but maybe some of my readers will help in the areas where I am unfamiliar (like sporting thingy's & healthy thingy's)
I'll start with a few of my favorites and why they are my favorites..

Best grocery store in Sidney: Sonny's Super Foods
Why: Best parking, fast checkers, I almost never wait in line, & great box boys/girls who are always friendly and they take your groceries to your car, and I giggle every time I come home with free milk from my rewards card. Go Sonny's!

Best Mexican Food in Sidney: 1. Virgils when we have extra money (expensive!) 2.Mi Ranchito when Virgils is closed. 3. Taco Johns when we are really broke.

Best hamburger in Sidney: Silver Dollar Bar. Hands down. Bummer ya got to go to a bar, but it's worth it.

Best Onion Ring in Sidney: Silver Dollar Bar.. To DIE FOR!!!!! (Best onion rings I have ever had) Got 1 bad batch ONCE..they were a little undercooked, but it has never happened again.

Best shake or malt in Sidney: Dairy Queen. Best I can get in Sidney. Be prepared to pay an arm & a leg, but when you really really need a shake/malt DQ is the best in Sidney.

Best French Fry in Sidney: Runza...mmmmmm french fries! Krinkle fries of course! If you are not into krinkle then Mc d's is the next best. (although, for being a salt lover, I almost died eating the over salted fries out there the other day...too much salt for me would kill someone who couldn't take too much salt.)

Best Steak in Sidney: Dudes. Although I am considering changing my mind since they dropped my favorite (veal cutlet) from their menu. Why couldn't they drop my husband's favorite?? What's up with that? Anyhoot. Dude's is the Best for steaks according to my neanderthal husband.

Best breakfast:.....I need someones help on this one as I don't eat breakfast.

Best Beer & conversation: Stewies...why? I don't know, we don't bar hop anymore, but when we did, Stewie was my favorite bartender. Him and his wife are just good people.

Best servicing in a downtown business...Finney's. They are great at helping you find things. Sometimes a little too quick! Maybe you just want to look around!
They have the most beautiful things to look at. No one can beat her Christmas trees / windows.

Best men's clothing: Larry's Clothing. Always the Best service and always so kind.
A little bit pricey for me, but I am broke so you can't really take my word for it.
But he was there for my husbands "funeral/weddings/graduation" suit 12 years ago (still looking good!) and my son's 2 prom tuxes. I love how they whip out their little measuring tape and measure my son's thick neck! They know what they are doing down there! Great job! It's a pure pleasure to see Larry outside his door, dressed to the nines and sweeping / scooping. It's like a Rockwell painting.

Best pharmacy: Western Drug
Maybe I am a little biased, but Western Drug has been my lifesaver. They were there for me when I was at my worst. Through all the tears and all the years they are by far the best. They treat you like family. I will always, always go to Western Drug.
Everything you could ask from a pharmacy / pharmacist.

Fastest convenience store: Gas N Git on 10th. Those gals are really fast and good at what they do. For gas we don't need to pay first...knock on wood.(that could always change / hope not!)

Best Salad bar: None. There is not one salad in this town that doesn't come from bagged lettuce (except from my house!) Boo on the salads Sidney, Boo!
If you like bagged lettuce....go away, I don't even want you on my blog page. Scat!
Shoo! Be gone.

Please feel free to post your favorite places in Sidney Nebraska & why. I will continue to add to the list as time goes by.
