He he he! I don't know how to begin this post. All I can do is shake my head and ask...."who's bright idea was this?" It is devastating, and I shudder to think what it will look like when they all go in. I'm talking about the ugly "bulb outs" the street dept is putting in. YOU KNOW THE ONES! Maybe I am just in shock. Maybe they will look better when they are all done. Maybe they will add charm and character to our little down town. I guess I can not envision it getting any better.
I really hope I am wrong.
Crap. There is no way these bulb outs are gonna work. They mess up the parallel parking & the turning radius, not to mention the snow plowing. What the h.e. double hockey sticks!

I like them. They don't stick out any further than a car in a parking space. If you drove in that area you were driving through a parked car. If you can't turn without hitting one, then you were one of the people who clipped parked cars. All the complaints about "we need new stores downtown".. well let's get downtown unique and pedestrian friendly.. you know the old saying "Build it and they will come". We could always just let things start looking like crap..that would really bring in the big businesses huh?? :)
ReplyDeleteDidn't the council vote yes on the bulb outs?? Now that they are built they don't want them? There's forward thinking for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your insights! I agree with anon1 in that they don't stick out any further than a parked car....but now we will need to back up and manuever into the space that we once were able to easily pull in and out, you know what I mean? I also think that they could be kinda cool lookin, but I really worry about a false sense of security for peds. No, I don't want our downtown to look like crap, I was hoping the new curbs would have been like the new curbs by Western Drug. I also agree with anon2, they voted for it! Now we are stuck with them. Anon1 could be very right in that maybe once they are all in it might be kinda charming. I sure hope so. Thank you for your post!
ReplyDeleteI really do think they have potential. There are little areas for planting trees etc.. If you have driven in Colorado lately..they are starting to have those round abouts all over the place in new constructions.. I hated them at first but now am used to them and I do think they work very well. I think that if people just are patient they will come to like the bulb outs. Change is very difficult, but it is easier when you face it with an open mind. I think with some plantings they will be very nice and I don't think pedestrians will have a false sense of security at all.
ReplyDeletePatience grasshopper... all will be just fine. :)
I'm sick to death of people wanting nothing but gravy to eat, jesus christ Sidney, eat a fuc%^ng potato once in a while. ie, fix the roads before you build expensive bulb outs.
ReplyDeleteAnd the only thing that will bring downtown back is wrapped so completely in a global corporate blanket it will never be what it was no matter how many bulb outs you build. And why bother bringing people downtown, What? so they can go to flea market stores, insurance stores, pharmacies etc. Wake up, get off the gravy, your digestion will improve greatly.
To Anon2,
ReplyDeleteI just talked to one of our councilman and asked why they voted for the bulbouts.
They didn't. They only approve a budget. They are NOT ALLOWED to see the bids. These bulb outs were secretly planned by the downtown developement peeps. Council had NO SAY in the bulbouts, they only approve the budget amount. Apparently, the secret bulbs were within the budget the council approved.
You can't really call them secret. Plans included the bulb-out were on display for almost a year in city hall. Last time I checked, that's where council meets.
ReplyDeleteA picture on a wall gets ignored by almost all.
ReplyDeleteI think I know why the Harpie 6 like the bulb outs so much, they match the shape of their heads, now they will feel more legitimate, not so lonely. Just kidding!! don't cry little harpies, you got 2 of um anyway.
ReplyDeleteUh....Spaceroy...I love you but.....have you looked at your icon?
ReplyDeleteI meditated on the bulbouts and tried to visualize the finished product...They could have been real nice! I can see quaintness in my vision. I think council should re consider, and stick with the 8 ft models. I think they should have printed a public ad with a large drawing of the "after" for all us folks instead of shocking the hell out of us. Personally, I was just in shock and felt like it came out of left field. I do want our down town to be beautiful. I really liked the trees they planted, too bad they died, but maybe tear out some concrete and plant the trees directly into the ground. I spoke too soon against the bulbs.
Who is Kathy Wilson? What seems to be her gripe? Is she trying to reference our family poker night? Is it illegal to play poker?
ReplyDeleteMy whole life guys have played poker. Let's hear from some guys out there, ever played poker?
Hey I'm a Bobble head too!!! OMG....I don't feel dumber....
ReplyDeleteI don't know who Kathy Wilson is either, shes not on the council but I thinks shes involved on some committees or something.
Is that what those goofies are talking about?
I thought they were talking about something else entirely...well now that is very funny indeed.
No I don't like um, the bulbs, but thats neither here nor there is it.
ReplyDeleteHey...I really am a Bobble head as I listen to Bob FM out of Oklahoma City...they call themselves Bobble heads..
ReplyDeleteThat's Bob with 1 o?
ReplyDeleteYes they always say " remember when you write in Bob only has 1 O" they also say for 1 million dollars they will play any song you want guaranteed!!! what a deal!!! I just love Bob FM, very very funny stuff.
ReplyDeleteHey Kel we need a new thread....something interesting....Oh hey I want people to know that the FDA has approved the Bronchial Thermoplasty procedure...great hope for people suffering from asthma, its for people who are on multiple asthma meds and still seem to suffer.
