Recycling, wind & sun

I am a child of the 60's and my whole life my dad talked of recycling, sun energy, & wind energy. He didn't just talk the talk, he walked the walk. His first invention
(from my memory bank) was a grease recycling machine. Restaurants used them to clean their frying grease. Green in the 60's. He then invented the FireCone aluminum smelting machine, to recycle the engine blocks, car parts etc...Green in the 70's.
My whole life we were taught of wind, sun & recycling. I remember a solar cigarette lighter when we were teens, I never could get it to work. And now, 50 years later, I only know 1 person who uses solar energy. Sidney's recycling effort petered out.
And up pop the wind mills!!!! YEA!!!! I love those windmills with all my heart. Finally! Making use of our Nebraska never ending winds is genius! Go wind power!
They are awesome, go stand next to one and you will be awed with their hugeness.
When I win the lottery I will have my own wind power. I myself have tried to always think of reusing things, hence my wreath. Above you will see my attempt at reusing articles found around our shop. The wreath base is a fan face (Thank you Spaceroy for finding the fan face, it could not have been made without it!) The entire fan face is filled with curly Q's created by our lathe machines. All the curly Q's were twisted onto the fan. The Bow is a very long skinny curly Q. The pine cones are a thicker shorter curly Q. The berries are made of small springs found around the shop and end caps that were mailed to us as samples. The display stand is an old kid's coat tree. It just goes to show ya, you can reuse a lot of things. Give it a try!

  1. I enjoyed reading this! I love history stuff and I enjoy learning about what the people I know have done..it's cool.
Sidney's recycling only ran out of money for curbside pickup. The city does a great job of recycling, we as citizens petered out. You can still get the recycling cartons from them and use them and just go dump them in the correct bin in the park or whereever else they are as well.

Dang...now I got to get off my butt and take my recyclables to the park. Don't worry Andy the "can man" you can still have my cans.
